And what's his name? [?Matel?] owned this part here, for the house is now a restaurant.

Winona Weber 00:12
Oh, I see.

Myrtle Charley Landry 00:12
That was [?Matel's?]. The door-- Hannah, why don't you stay back there? [Inaudible.] I don't
want you running over my feet. [Inaudible]. Stay over that way.

Winona Weber 00:27
I'll just move my chair up so she can't get by.

Myrtle Charley Landry 00:31
But he was raised with them.

Winona Weber 00:33
Oh, really?

Myrtle Charley Landry 00:34
And as far as I've ever heard him speak, but he never said you know who. All I knew was
Lighthouse and just from the story, you know, that was--that was told about him giving the land
away to the Coast Guard, you know.

Winona Weber 00:48
Yeah.

Myrtle Charley Landry 00:48
And given the name of Lighthouse.

Winona Weber 00:54
Mhm. [Inaudible cross talk.]

--Never speak of the grandmother. Of course, they were always out of sight, anyway, you know.
They they had to work, be sitting there making basket. He never spoke about her [inaudible].

Winona Weber 01:06
Huh!

Myrtle Charley Landry 01:09
Even [?Matel?], who I think never spoke, spoke up. [Dishes clanking loudly.] Course he didn't
stay with them as much as he stayed with-- I cursed him [inaudible] he's got platform shoes.

Winona Weber 01:24
Yeah, on [inaudible] rock.

Myrtle Charley Landry 01:26
That's what's her-- just the [inaudible] twice. That's Shirley, [?Molly's?] girlfriend.

Winona Weber 01:39
When did-- When did old [name] die? Lighthouse Charley?

Myrtle Charley Landry 01:40
Gosh, I don't know. You know--

Winona Weber 01:45
Hannah! Knock it off.

Myrtle Charley Landry 01:45
It would be-- it would be-- Like I say, I wasn't interested in Indian.

Winona Weber 01:51
Uh-huh.

Myrtle Charley Landry 01:52
And those things that I heard, you know-- Don't, Hannah! It was went over my head, you know,
it wasn't anything that I needed to know.

Winona Weber 02:03
Yeah.

Myrtle Charley Landry 02:06
I remember my grandmother, [?Chicha?]. Remember them well. Of course. Like, I say Chicha
you used to pack me on her back. With a shawl and Irene and the rest had to walk to go to
[inaudible]. I used wanted to be on the ground, too, you know.

Winona Weber 02:19
Oh, really? Uh-huh.

Myrtle Charley Landry 02:28
She'd take a shawl, there my legs would be dangling down here. Chicha really--

Winona Weber 02:33
Kind of like a backpack?

Myrtle Charley Landry 02:34
Yes.

Winona Weber 02:34
Is that what it was?

Myrtle Charley Landry 02:35
Chicha was little. She wasn't a big woman. And she'd always pack me, I never know the reason
why. A lot of it, I was hoping to run around with the other kids, you know, instead of her packing
me.

Winona Weber 02:47
Yeah. Oh, yeah.

Myrtle Charley Landry 02:52
She packed me every time. It's really funny to-- Shut that off again.

Winona Weber 03:01
Okay. [Recorder clicks off.]
